The Biodiversity Governance Innovation Programme (BioGov) is a five-year initiative implemented by Alinea International, supporting the Government of Suriname to strengthen biodiversity governance. This programme has a focus on marine and coastal ecosystems and works with national ministries, Indigenous and Tribal Peoples, and civil society. The intern will work closely with the project team, supporting the design and establishment of the project’s monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) database and system.

Overview

The BioGov programme aims to operationalize Suriname’s 2024-2035 National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan through inclusive, coordinated, and gender-responsive biodiversity governance.

  • Support the design, development, and establishment of the project’s MEL database and system
  • Collaborate with the project team in data collection and data entry
  • Undertake desk research on localisation obligations under key biodiversity policies
  • Participate in project meetings and activities via hybrid or remote platforms
  • Support project communications by capturing photos, videos, and participant testimonials
  • Contribute to donor-facing processes by supporting the preparation and review of key deliverables

Eligibility

The internship is open to candidates with an undergraduate degree in a relevant field, such as sociology, biology, environment, biodiversity and conservation, international affairs, or a related field. Computer skills with MS Office and fluency in English and Dutch are essential.

  • Enrolment in, or completion of, a Master’s programme in a related field (desirable)
  • Working knowledge of local languages, such as Sranan Tongo, Indigenous or Maroon languages (desirable)
